The Refugee Problem in Jordan
RSVP AT BOTTOM OF PAGE
Event Description:
"No one puts their children in a boat unless the water is safer than the land" -- Warsan Shire
ICUJP Board member Don Smith will talk about his recent trip to Jordan and his work with refugees from Yemen, Iraq, Palestine, and Syria, and will give his view on children as refugees. He has visited the Middle East several times.
Join the conversation with our speaker:
Don Smith spent years working in Los Angeles with the homeless before he moved to Santa Cruz, CA. Don's mother is from the Middle East, and his father is from America. His family lost their business and homes with the Israeli occupation in Palestine.
Don is a Self-proclaimed Christian anarchist. Christian anarchism is a political philosophy and way of life that combines Christian religious beliefs with anarchist principles. It emphasizes Jesus's teachings, particularly the rejection of worldly authority and the importance of love and nonviolence, to inform a stateless society. Key tenets include rejecting the state, promoting nonviolence, and advocating for social justice and equality.

You are invited to a film screening of Israelism at the Pasadena Presbyterian Church this Friday, June 6 at 7pm.
The film follows two young American Jews raised to support Israel unconditionally and how their lives are changed when they travel to and witness the way Israel treats Palestinians. They join a movement of young American Jews campaigning to redefine Judaism’s relationship with Israel and reveal a deepening generational divide over modern Jewish identity.

Enough of demonizing whole groups of people.
Enough of immoral budgeting to benefit billionaires.
