Stephen Fiske: The Calling of the Activist
RSVP AT BOTTOM OF PAGE
Event Description:
In song, poetry, video, and discussion, Stephen Fiske will speak about the calling which has been activated across the U.S. as we the citizens rise up in resistance to the wrecking ball that the Trump regime has been wielding against democracy. The calling is both an individual commitment born within the heart of each of us, and a collective engagement to speak truth to power, and to “get into good trouble” as activists pursuing social justice.
We are urgently called in this turbulent and challenging time to the spiritual values of Interfaith understandings, non-violence, Earth Stewardship, and to the protection of the ongoing process of reaching to fulfill the ideals of democracy, of “a more perfect union.”.
Join the conversation with our speaker:
As a long-time activist since the Civil Rights Movement, a Conscientious Objector during the Vietnam War, and a musician, poet, author, filmmaker, and ICUJP member and presenter, Stephen Fiske brings a rich background to the discussion.
Video: Rising Up by Stephen Fiske
In collaboration with filmmaker/partner Robert Corsini, ICUJP Board member Stephen Fiske wrote the song Rising Up as a call to action protesting Trump’s trashing of democracy.
As a long-time musician/activist since the Civil Rights Movement, Fiske wrote an adaptation of the traditional freedom song Ain’t Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me Around, to address the immediacy of these troubled times and to capture the spirit of the nationwide rallies in opposition to the relentless march towards fascism by this administration.

Please Support the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank
As the current administration prepares to cut off SNAP benefits to millions in order to push for drastic cuts in health care for American citizens, there will be a tremendous burden put on local food banks and essential services during the upcoming holiday season.
