Gerry Condon / Veterans for Peace: Reclaiming Armistice Day
RSVP AT BOTTOM OF PAGE
Event Description:
Gerry Condon will speak on the Veterans For Peace campaign to reclaim November 11 as Armistice Day, a day of peace. The Great War (later called the First World War) ended on November 11, 1918 to world wide celebration. Since then, most of the world has celebrated Nov. 11 as a day that serves as a reminder of the horrors of war.
In 1954, the U.S. Congress redefined this national holiday as “Veterans Day,” thus shifting the focus away from peace to the glorification of war. Join us to reclaim Armistice Day.
Gerry Condon will also speak on the threat of nuclear weapon use against Iran by the Hegseth/Trump regime. This is an urgent call stating that any attack on Iran is wrong and illegal, and the use of nuclear weapons would be horrific.

Veterans For Peace and the Golden Rule Peace Boat are among over 200 organizations calling on Congress to take urgent action to prevent Trump from using nuclear weapons against Iran. "The use of even a single nuclear weapon in Iran would destroy a taboo that has been held since Nagasaki, with unimaginable consequences for all humanity. The U.S. president should not have the unchecked authority to launch nuclear war.Join the conversation with our speaker:

Gerry Condon is a Vietnam-era veteran and war resister who serves on the Board of Directors of Veterans For Peace, facilitates VFP's Nuclear Abolition Working Group and chairs the Golden Rule Committee, which organizes the voyages of the historic Golden Rule anti-nuclear sailboat. Gerry was awarded the 2025 U.S. Peace Prize "for courageous resistance to war, long-term leadership of Veterans For Peace and opposition to nuclear weapons."Learn More/Here's how YOU can help:

God at the Polls: Progressive Candidates of Faith and the 2026 Midterm Elections at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4, on Zoom.
All are invited to join the Public Square’s post-midterm election virtual discussion of the ways new candidates on the US left, who are professing and outspoken people of faith, are shifting the public conversation about how religious belief can shape political life in American. In 2026, candidates like James Talarico, Lindsay James and Abdul El-Sayed joined folks like Ilhan Omar, Raphael Warnock, and Zohran Mamdani in speaking about the intersections of their faith and their political philosophies. Can politicians like these challenge the strong, decades-long relationship between the Christian Right and the GOP? How might more plural expressions of belief help Americans find political solutions beyond polarization and exclusion?

Interfaith Communities United for Justice and Peace Celebrates 25 years of Commitment and Action

On Sunday, Sept. 27th at All Saints Church in Pasadena, Interfaith Communities United for Justice and Peace commemorated our 25th anniversary at the George Rev. George C. Regas Courageous Peacemaker Awards. You can see some of the images from the program above, and we were honored to lift up the work and courage of honorees Pasadena for Palestine, Father Chris Ponnet, Bishop John Taylor, Stephen Rohde, Francesca Albanese, and Rick Steves. You can see stirring speeches from Mike Farrell, Steve Rohde, and Francesca Albanese here, and if you follow the ICUJP Facebook page, you will be seeing more content over the coming weeks.
In creating this organization, the convenors who met just after September 11th in Los Angeles put extreme care into every word - we had to be interfaith, we must be focused on our communities no matter how large or small, and we all committed to make a united stand for justice and peace.
Through all of the trials and tribulations we all have faced in the past quarter-century, we have held true to our mission to be the voice for "the least of these", and to stand up to tyranny and despotism in all its forms. From opposing the death penalty, to lifting up the valiant efforts of those engaged in fighting Islamophobia, Antisemitism and all forms of discrimination, to working for the rights of the undocumented and unhoused, Interfaith Communities United for Justice and Peace has been determined to create the change we want to see in the world, no matter how daunting the opposition can seem.
We would be honored if you make a contribution and join this movement to lift up justice and peace in all its forms - for the past 25 years, and the next.

Become a Card-Carrying Member of Interfaith Communities United for Justice and Peace!
This year, Interfaith Communities United for Justice and Peace is commemorating 25 years of advocacy for the disenfranchised and abused at home and around the world. In the aftermath of September 11th 2001, Los Angeles religious and secular leaders and activists came together to seek an alternative to the fear mongering and vengefulness sweeping much of our nation. ICUJP declared that “Religious Communities Must Stop Blessing War and Violence.”
We have endured and spread our message through very trying times - five Presidents, four California Governors, and numerous crises and challenges that would shake the resolve of even the most devout and dedicated group of activists. But through it all, we have held true to our mission to be the voice for "the least of these." We are determined to create the change we want to see in the world, no matter how daunting the opposition can seem.
Like many nonprofits, the economy, the aftereffects of the Covid pandemic, and the constant attacks on progressive organizations by the Trump administration have affected our fundraising. We depend on the support of people who believe in justice and peace, who attend our weekly Zoom forums, who go to our events, or who receive the information on our website and social media.
We would be honored if you can donate $25, $50, $100 (or more) to help us keep up with the increasing costs of securing live venues, renting audio and video equipment, printing valuable information for live events, bringing our social media tools up to date, and paying our small but mighty part-time staff. We have several ways for you to support our work:
You can go to the ICUJP donation page on our website to make a one-time donation, or spread your donation out monthly.
You can also visit our ICUJP Threadless Store where you can check out our new products with our brand new ICUJP 25th Anniversary logo! Make a purchase and wear your support for our organization, or give the gift of a tote bag, a mug, or a cute little onesie so your grandkids can be fashionable!
If you make a donation using either of these options, we will also send you a personalized ICUJP membership card for yourself or as a gift to print out:
ICUJP operates as a largely volunteer organization with a small part-time paid staff. We have survived for 25 years through the generosity of individuals like yourselves and organizations such as yours.
