ICUJP Friday Forum
June 17th, 7:30-9:30 am Pacific

Description: Join Maraky from BAJI (Black Alliance for Just Immigration) as they share the current state of Black migrants in CA and at the US-Mexico border. Black migrants continue to be under attack due to rampant anti-Blackness across the Americas. Come and learn about the harm that the United States is exporting to other countries with its racist policies & practices.

Maraky Alemseged

Maraky Alemseged is BAJI’s Los Angeles Organizer. She is a second-generation Ethiopian immigrant who was born and bred in Los Angeles to two revolutionaries.

As a result, Maraky has spent her lifetime challenging unjust systems of oppression with the knowledge that “the personal is political and the political is personal.” Their nascent professional career is built atop years of community organizing, with heavy involvement in local, national, and international Black migrant communities. Maraky is a Pan-African abolitionist and believes in approaching social justice issues from an intersectional lens.

Here's how YOU can help:

Call on your Senators and the Biden administration to immediately put an end to racist policies like Title 42 and offer permanent protections for Black migrants. Read BAJI's newest report on racist immigration policies that trap Black migrants in Mexico. The report will be launched on BAJI's website on World Refugee Day (Monday 6/20).
