Omar Zahzah: Digital Settler Colonialism and Palestinian Liberation
RSVP AT BOTTOM OF PAGE
Event Description:
"Propaganda is to a democracy what the bludgeon is to a totalitarian state.” -- Noam Chomsky
Drawing from his book Terms of Servitude: Zionism, Silicon Valley, and Digital Settler Colonialism in the Palestinian Liberation Struggle, which is forthcoming from The Censored Press in partnership with Seven Stories Press on September 16th, 2025 as well as his recent reporting for Mondoweiss and Electronic Intifada, Omar Zahzah will discuss how US Big Tech companies facilitate Israeli settler colonialism.
Zahzah will especially focus on social media censorship, doxxing, and repression in elaborating a repurposed framework of “digital settler colonialism,” which he uses to capture the convergence of US Big Tech hegemony and the Zionist colonial project.
Join the conversation with our speaker:
Omar Zahzah is an organizer, writer, poet, journalist, and Assistant Professor of Arab and Muslim, Ethnicities, and Diasporas (AMED) Studies in the Department of Race and Resistance Studies at San Francisco State University.

ICUJP Condemns the actions of the current administration to foment unrest in Southern California and other parts of the US. We hope you will find the following information useful in keeping involved and safe.

In 2024, campuses across the nation, including UCLA, USC and Occidental became sites of sustained, student-led protest against the onslaught in Gaza, the Biden Administration's support for Israel, and their own universities' complicity through investments and contracts.
On Friday, August 22nd, the All Saints Middle East Ministry will meet in the Forum to screen and discuss The Encampments, a 2025 documentary which "offers an urgent, intimate portrait of America’s student movement, ignited at Columbia University as students protested their universities’ ties to the war on Gaza. Their actions sparked a nationwide uprising, with encampments spreading across hundreds of campuses. Featuring detained activist Mahmoud Khalil, alongside professors, whistleblowers, and organizers, the film captures the deeper stakes of a historic moment that continues to reverberate across the globe."
We will be joined for our discussion by LuLu Hammad, who was active in the protests at both UCLA and UCIrvine.
The screening will begin at 6pm, so plan to arrive a few minutes before to get a good seat.
The screening is free and there will be an opportunity to contribute to the UC students legal defense fund. Street parking is metered until 6pm, or use our parking lot north of the Church.
