FOOD SECURITY IN NICARAGUA: LESSONS FOR LOCAL SUSTAINABILITY AND RESILIENCE

Description: Rachel Bruhnke went to Nicaragua this summer with the Friends of the ATC on a trip that takes people down to work with and learn from local farmers. Rachel is also an urban farmer and her farm is called Harbor Farms. This presentation will discuss Food Security in Nicaragua, and ideas/examples of its urgency in Los Angeles, and how it can transform California agriculture so ALL can win, including our state's future!

Rachel Bruhnke earned an M.S. in Environmental Resource Engineering researching Cuba's energy transition after the fall of the Soviet Union. She has been working on Just Transition analysis, activism and lobbying in the U.S. for over 10 years.
Rachel teaches Horticulture, Spanish and Environmental Resource Engineering to High School students, whose values and dreams inspire her daily. She lives with her partner and her daughter on an urban farm (FB: Harbor Farms San Pedro), and continues to be involved in the Peace/Anti-War Movement. She was a candidate for the California State Assembly in 2018 with the Green Party. She looks forward to sharing and discussion with you all.

If you prefer to join by phone, you'll be prompted to enter the Meeting ID number and passcode. You won't be able to see the visuals or attendees, but you can view them on the meeting video recording afterward.
